Position Purpose:

The Manager, Advanced Metering Infrastructure Operations (AMIO) is required throughout the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Renewal and AMI 2.0 projects. AMI Renewal and AMI 2.0 are part of Alectra’s Smart Grid 2.0 strategy. The Manager, AMIO manages the transition of Alectra’s legacy meter reading systems and processes to the future state of AMI 2.0. The Manager, AMIO leads a high-functioning team of AMI, MV90 and project specialists, ensuring timely data availability and accuracy of meter data from 1MM meters in support of meter-to-cash processes and customer billing.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and coaching to the AMI, MV90 and Specialist employees, building high-functioning and analytical teams that proactively manage risk and data exceptions
  • Develops incremental KPI's and monitors existing KPI's to ensure that legacy and new AMI systems are properly managed and data availability / accuracy exceeds the metrics required to support meter-to-cash processes and customer billing
  • Leads / implements new AMI technologies, including development of testing plans and acceptance criteria
  • Leads the testing and validation of all AMI systems, components and integrations including the AMI head end, system upgrades, integration testing in Q&A environment prior to promotion to Production systems
  • Leads meter configuration sessions, first article testing/validation of meter configuration
  • Leads the testing and validation of firmware upgrades for meters and network equipment prior to release, working with the vendor to ensure that meter-to-cash processes are not impacted
  • Monitors and escalates AMI exceptions, as required assigning appropriate contacts for troubleshooting and resolution
  • Monitors and performs proactive risk assessments on the AMI canopies to recommend mesh modifications to ensure the efficient operation of the systems
  • Monitors health, performs triage and escalates as required, operational issues related to AMI meter-to-bill ancillary systems
  • Proactively develops AMI / MV90 analytical tools, processes and reporting to support the team, manage the accurate and timely change out of 1MM meters through the AMI systems, and identifies / communicates outcomes and risks
  • Leads the AMI 2.0 "tiger team" to address field and data exceptions in real time through the mass meter deployment period
  • Ensures timely communications with Customer Service, Manager Contracted Services and other stakeholders to ensure that AMI Operations activities are well understood
  • Maintain and periodically review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance to established procedures, recommending enhancements’ when appropriate
  • Provides recommendations to ensure project success regarding the collapse of legacy AMI systems, transition of the Guelph AMI system to Alectra AMI 2.0, and AMI 2.0 mesh / infrastructure
  • Establishes relationships and works closely with AMI Project Leads, both internal and external
  • Provides coaching, performance management and guidance to direct reports
  • Supports compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Supports change management and staff engagement
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Skills & Qualifications:

Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • Degree / designation in electrical, technology or information systems
  • Strong understanding of advanced metering infrastructure principles and practices, electrical distribution systems,
  • Strong financial acumen, and knowledge of regulatory and governmental utilities codes and regulations
  • Strong financial and reporting skills
  • Thorough understanding of a utility’s meter to bill process and revenue assurance principles
  • Knowledge of Oracle CC&B, J.D. Edwards Enterprise One Financials, ODS applications, etc. is considered an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications 

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Metering or complimentary utility experience including 5 years’ experience leading teams
  • Experience managing data and projects
  • Demonstrated ability in process development, risk identification, problem resolution, etc.

  • Strong conflict negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and resolve complex and critical issues
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license
