GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) TECHNICIAN

Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. is seeking a qualified individual to join our Engineering Department in the full-time unionized position of G.I.S. Technician. This exciting position reports to the G.I.S. Administrator and is required to collect, update and perform quality assurance and quality control on the data in the GIS systems, resulting from construction, maintenance, or inspections.

Primary duties & responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Updating the G.I.S. electrical maps by reviewing project instructions and "As Built" drawings.
  • Performing field data collection upon construction project completion to ensure the GIS data integrity.
  • Survey and GPS data collection to assisting site planning with engineering staff.
  • Producing cartographic and analytic maps as required.
  • Assisting with annual asset inspection process with data quality control and updating inspection results in the G.I.S. system.
  • Assigning nomenclature, pole tagging and collecting photographic images for NPEI assets.
  • Assist with inspections on third party work such as subdivisions, service trenching, road works, etc.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Post-secondary education in Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.)
  • A minimum of one (1) year College Certificate or a two (2) year College Diploma (preferred).
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with G.I.S., data and records management in an engineering environment.
  • Previous work experience in an electric utility is an asset.
  • Valid class G license.
  • Knowledge of computer terminology, G.I.S. systems and mapping.
  • Requires a working knowledge of relevant MS Office software.
