DESIGN TECHNICIAN- Group 6
ASSET OPERATIONS DIVISION
The incumbent will rotate through the Design Department within the Asset Operations Division to gain experience and exposure to a variety of tasks, to develop the skills necessary to competently perform the role. This incumbent will be required over time to develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills established for Group 7 Design Technicians to be eligible for planned progression to next job level.
Responsibilities will include:
Detailed design of basic overhead and underground distribution systems including rebuilds, subdivisions & customer jobs
Interaction with customers regarding residential and commercial service projects
Interdepartmental liaison and project co-ordination with other utilities and authorities to process/ secure permits, agreements and easements
Integrated co-ordination of designs with construction supervisors and field staff
Field verification of existing site/ electrical plant conditions
Preparation of cost estimates and bill of material for service orders
Preparation and issuance of service orders and maintaining associated files and records
Requirements:
Completion of Electrical Engineering Technician program form an accredited post-secondary institution, with eligibility for C.Tech certification.
Well developed verbal & written communication skills
Demonstrated strong customer relations capabilities and ability to respond and communicate with customers and contractors on an ongoing basis
Familiarity with AutoCAD drafting (Microstation preferred) and basic Microsoft computer applications such as Outlook, Excel and Word
Safe working habits are essential
Flexible attitude toward work assignment
Ability to meet strict deadlines
Valid driver’s license and safe driver record
Electrical utility familiarity or experience would be considered an asset, including some basic understanding of overhead and underground distribution system design up to the 44kV level
Salary range: Group 6, $1, 288.98 – $1,482.52 per week. This position is based on a 40 hour week.
