The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Supervisor, including providing technical specifications, drawings review, work order estimates and installation inspection for new developments; drawing, staking, layouts and work order estimates for capital projects and relocations; update technical information and distribution system drawings.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Providing technical specifications to developers, reviewing and correcting their plans, and inspecting installation to ensure it conforms to approved drawings.
  • Preparing detailed line layouts, work orders and estimates for line work required for new developments, capital projects or line relocations; do initial work for easements when required.
  • Staking out line betterments or relocations.
  • Providing specifications for ordering transformers for developments.
  • Working with the Supervisor on transformer load management, phase balancing, voltage and current studies.
  • Conducting fault current and fuse co-ordination studies.
  • Updating technical information, i.e. transformer data, voltage and current studies, etc., on computer.
  • Liaising with other utilities such as gas, telephone, cable TV, water, sewer, etc., to ensure co-ordination of services.
  • Assisting with the coordination of the forestry program.

Qualifications 

  • College diploma in electrical engineering.
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • An excellent understanding of electrical distribution systems including their design, construction and maintenance. Must be able to prepare specifications, drawings, standards, and instructions, and be able to interpret same.
  • Good knowledge of computer software programs, including Spida Calc, Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
  • Excellent time management skills and written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deal tactfully with customers.
  • Ability to operate a class ‘G’ motor vehicle
