Management Position – Lines & Operations Division

This is a full-time position based in Kenora, ON. SYNERGY NORTH invests in the safety and wellbeing of our employees. The successful candidate may be required to travel to Thunder Bay, ON during the onboarding phase of their employment and in the future for training and corporate initiatives.
Position Summary:
Under the general direction and guidance of the Vice President, Lines Construction, Maintenance & Operations, as part of a team of Line Supervisors, is responsible for assigning, directing, and supervising crews in the construction and maintenance of the Power Line Department. The specific duties include:
Responsible to efficiently utilize assigned resources to complete projects on schedule. Monitors costs to ensure the correct execution of work estimates. Coordinates work with other departments and external stakeholders, as required. Supervises the day-to-day operations of assigned staff and is responsible for the safety and productivity of the staff. As required, supervises the work of contract crews, temporary, and part-time staff. Performs all supervisory functions including motivating and directing employees, interviewing for hiring and promotion selections, evaluating and communicating employee performance including performance reviews, attendance issues, maintaining discipline and order, handling grievances, etc. Administers policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and the collective agreements.
Qualifications:
Secondary school graduation together with the completion of a Journeyman Powerline Technician Program recognized by the Province of Ontario and a minimum of 8 years experience in the construction and maintenance aspects of an Electrical Distribution Utility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have previous experience as a working supervisor in a Lead Hand, Temporary Lead Hand, or Acting Supervisor role. Must demonstrate excellent customer relations/customer service skills, good problem solving, and decision making skills. A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and leadership in the areas of safety, teambuilding, training, efficiency, and productivity is necessary. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills.Must be competent with occupational health and safety legislation, Utility Work Protection code, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, other safety policies and procedures and must become proficient in Synergy North’s safety rules and work procedures.
Preferred:
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of AS400/HTE Operating Systems, computer terminals, personal computers and Microsoft Office software. Previous supervisory role within an electrical utility.
