This position reports to the Metering Supervisor and is responsible for carrying out all aspects of the Meter Technician trade, including the installation, removal, maintenance, inspection, sealing and recording of all types of revenue meters and associated equipment in accordance with approved Quality Management System procedures.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

  • Demonstrated excellent safety skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate an ability to interpret drawings, sketches and diagrams and to work from verbal and written instructions, specifications, and standards
  • Must demonstrate excellent operational skills with the tools and equipment associated with the metering trade
  • Competent in use of personal computers including knowledge of the Customer Information System, Microsoft Office and other vendor specific software
  • Requires a working knowledge of the company’s Quality Management System, industry regulations, the ESA Distribution Safety Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, the Utility Work Protection Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related Construction and Industrial regulations and relevant company policies, work procedures and service requirements and any other applicable government legislation
  • General knowledge in the operation of an aerial device and working aloft as needed for metering, under general supervision
  • Must be able to perform the duties of the position in both inside and outside work environments

Experience/Education     

  • Requires a minimum of a two-year Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technician diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a Journeyman Meter Technician including successful completion of the MEARIE Meter Technician Training Program
  • Requires a valid class "G" driver's license
  • Requires certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR

Major (Primary) Responsibilities

  • Initiate processes and maintain records as defined in the Quality Management System (QMS) documentation
  • Install, repair, prepare, evaluate and replace electric meters and associated instruments in accordance with Measurement Canada regulations and Enova standards and policies
  • Inspect, verify and seal all electric meters in accordance with Measurement Canada approved QMS
  • Understand and operate the test and measurement equipment and meter standards both in the shop and in the field, for all metering installations
  • Complete the cross-phase testing of metering installations and confirm mathematically and vectorially the correctness of the installation
  • Operate motor vehicles in a safe and responsible manner
  • Maintain and promote a safe and healthy work environment and perform work in a safe manner in compliance with applicable legislation and corporate rules, procedures and policies
  • Work in accordance with approved work plans and prepare tailboard sheets
  • Must deal with customers, government agencies, regulatory bodies, suppliers, the public and fellow employees in a respectful, courteous and tactful manner
