This position initially reports to the Manager, Asset Management & System Engineering at the Ajax location and is responsible for the daily activities as follows:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare new, update, and revise existing, and maintain current and up to date the following:
    • Design and construction standards.
    • Material purchasing specifications.
    • Installation / Construction specifications.
    • Policies and procedures.
  • Engineering Design Software
  • Maintain, organize, and update the management system for policies and procedures, specifications, and standards.
  • Ensure availability of standards, specifications, and design tools to all relevant staff within the Asset Management Department as well as Operations Department, as needed.
  • Review and approve material submitted by outside contractors for installation of various types of projects to ensure compliance with material purchasing specifications.
  • Prepare presentations and communicate information to company staff at training sessions and safety meetings.
  • Assist in the investigation and follow-up of new material and products.
  • Assist in the investigation and follow-up of equipment failure and reliability data. Report on equipment/material performance statistics and maintain relevant database of the same.
  • Attend and participate as an active member on the Organization’s Standards Committee.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to all internal & external inquiries.
  • Report verbally or in writing as required on all activities to the engineering and group’s supervisor or Manager.
  • Liaise with other departments and other stakeholders as necessary for the efficient completion of the Technician’s work and assist others in the completion of theirs.
  • Participate in the Health and Safety programs / meetings / trainings as sanctioned by the Organization or the Department and meet or exceed the workplace safety and health related goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer knowledge, including proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Design Software (e.g. Spida Calc) will be an asset.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of GIS systems
  • Knowledge of utility related construction practices
  • Knowledge of Ontario Regulation 22/04
  • Project Management skills
  • Excellent safety record and strong safety awareness
  • Be dependable. This role is relied upon to complete assigned work within permitted timelines.
  • Have an exceptional attendance record and proven time management skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Highly motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with both internal and external clients.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-year post-secondary diploma Electrical Technologist
  • A.C.E.T.T. designation as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist in the Province of Ontario in the Electrical discipline
  • Possess a valid Ontario Class G Drivers' license with a good driving record.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years relevant experience in the engineering field
