Specialist, Wholesale (MSP)

Position Purpose:

Working with the Engineer, MSP, the Specialist, MSP supports the enterprise complying with all Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) Market Rules pertaining to metering services. This role provides technical support to both Alectra and its affiliates in establishing and troubleshooting metering communication networks, installations and associated devices. Supports IESO facility and meter installation registrations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support in the setup and troubleshooting of metering communication networks and metering issues
  • Supports the preparation of technical documents including electrical drawings, cabling, and work plan schedules
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline or automate processes to continuously improve service delivery
  • Aligns business unit work programs to respective work centres’ efficiently
  • Understands and meets regulated Meter market participant requirements
  • Supports the resolution of Distributed Generation Metering issues
  • Supports Reverification and Seal Extension Programs
  • Supports Interval and Large Customer Metering Programs, including all aspects of MV90 System
  • Coordinates IESO registration and provides technical support throughout the IESO registration process
  • Supports the scheduling of site maintenance, IESO audits, and meter trouble report (“MTR”) resolution
  • Supports all aspects of Commercial Metering
  • Works closely with Customer Experience teams to support resolution of Metering and Billing Issues
  • Works closely with Customer Experience and Network Operations to support resolution of Power Quality issues
  • Supports and maintains document control procedures
  • Ensures all aspects of Alectra’s safety philosophy is executed and adhered to ensure compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or 3 year Electrical Engineering Diploma, or recognized equivalent

Specialized knowledge

  • Knowledge of regulatory, environmental and governmental requirements/legislation (OEB Rules and Regulations, PIPEDA, OHSA, EUSA Rules, Measurement Canada, IESO, Regulation 22/04, WHMIS)
  • Knowledge of technical specifications/standards including CSA, CEA and Ontario
  • Knowledge of electricity distribution and metering
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications

Experience

  • Experience in dealing with contractors, developers and representatives within the Utility industry
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset, with generation experience

Skills/Abilities/Competencies

  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex technical issues
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license

  • Work performed in an environment with minor or almost no exposure to disagreeable or challenging working conditions.
