Supervisor, Asset Management

 

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Burlington Hydro Inc. (“BHI”) is seeking a Supervisor, Asset Management, to join our Engineering department. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and new infrastructure needs of the utility.  The successful candidate will take ownership and operation of asset management programs/models/platforms, investigation of equipment failures, reliability issues, new equipment approvals, development of inspection and maintenance plans and procedures and investigation of technologies that will balance the needs of equipment longevity while maintaining cost effectiveness. The incumbent will support the development of capital programs to meet the short and long-term Asset Management needs that are supported through evidence ensuring capital plans and expenditures are optimized. Ensure that long-term plans and expenses are suitable and that projects are constructed and completed as designed before being accepted into the distribution system. This is an on-site position.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, organize, and schedule new infrastructure and maintenance regimes to improve system reliability and rectify all issues related to work orders
  • Establish, implement, monitor, and update various contracts, in-house protocols, and departmental processes in compliance with all relevant regulations
  • Supervise equipment installations; align cost control and profitability with yearly budgets
  • Remain current on technology and techniques via education and training
  • Investigate alternatives, perform cost-benefit analyses, and anticipate areas of potential difficulty
  • Authorize, review, and amend standard construction drawings, designs, correspondence, and estimates while implementing departmental procedures and standards consistent with Conditions of Service
  • Answer inquiries and respond to customer complaints
  • Manage the creation and updating of in-house protocol and ensure that operational systems are reliable and accurate
  • Ensure the accuracy of asset condition and risk data via robust planning, procedures and protocols implemented through internal and external resources
  • Develop and maintain asset risk registries in line with the Distribution System Plan and Strategic Asset Management Plan
  • Be the direct responsible person for the development and implementation of the annual Asset Condition Assessment and Asset Replacement plans
  • Develop, maintain and report on the Asset Management policies and procedures
  • Develop, organize, and schedule infrastructure and maintenance regimes to improve system reliability. Rectify all issues related to work orders
  • Provide system refinements with the aim of improving asset performance
  • Develop project scope documents and business cases for equipment removals, replacements and new installations related to the DSP implementation program
  • Investigate alternatives, perform cost-benefit and risk analyses, and anticipate areas of system improvements and efficiencies
  • Manage the portfolio of BHI standards, specifications, designs guidelines, (in accordance with industry standards including the Electrical Safety Authority regulations) that in turn guide the construction practices of the utility while implementing departmental procedure and policies consistent with the DSP and Conditions of Service
  • Develop and/or maintain equipment specifications, drawings, test reports, etc. in compliance with the Reg. 22/O4 requirements
  • Liaise with vendors, consultants, contractors and internal and external stakeholders
  • Formulate maintenance and capital improvement programs/recommendations via the compilation of a yearly system analysis report
  • Approve permits, correspondence, invoices, and inventory commitments, as needed
  • Provide guidance and training to technicians, contractors and Operations staff involved in asset management activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Diploma Certified as a C. Tech or C.E.T. with Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists or higher
  • Minimum of 3 years related engineering experience
  • Prior experience in a supervisory/leadership role preferred
  • Professional Engineer Designation preferred
  • Excellent management, leadership, mathematical, scientific, problem-solving and planning skills
  • Valid and clean class “G” driver’s license and be able to maintain the same

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills supported by experience with interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, and regulations and familiarity with hydro operations, equipment usage, design, and installation
  • Application of engineering design principles and understanding of construction practices, high-voltage systems, electrical distribution, metering, and equipment specifications. Knowledge of AM/FM computer-aided drafting
  • Knowledge of applicable ordinances and policies governing Burlington Hydro’s engineering practices and procedures
