About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Supervisor of Accounting is responsible all financial accounting and record keeping functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting,  and the month end and year-end close process.

 

As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Supervise day to day accounting functions, promoting career development and training plans, setting annual performance targets, and providing regular performance feedback and coaching;
  • Lead the month end close process to ensure completeness and accuracy of record keeping, including review and approval of journal entries and account reconciliations; setting clear expectations for timelines and deliverables;
  • Responsible for leading the year end external audit of the group of companies and liaising with the external auditors;
  • Manage and administer the corporate credit card program;
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems. Including identifying and managing business risks, the assessment of current operations, developing and maintaining corporate and financial policies and procedures, and ensuring documentation of standardized procedures.
  • Assist with Insurance Management to ensure that all appropriate insurance coverage is maintained to mitigate risks and maintain appropriate premiums, through annual reporting to insurance provider;
  • Partner with Supply Chain to oversee thee accounting and ensure the accurate record keeping of inventory and purchasing activities.
  • Ensure that the accounting activities for regulatory and financial reporting are in compliance with all Ontario Energy Board (OEB) policies and guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles (IFRS);
  • Assist with tax compliance and annual income tax filings for Group of Companies
  • Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned

 

What you have to offer:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
  • 5 + years of progressive financial experience, focused on financial accounting, planning and reporting.
  • A professional CPA accounting designation (CGA, CMA, or CA)with preference given to accounting firm experience
  • Strong leadership aptitude; superior interpersonal and communication skills; excellent listener and motivator
  • Experience in a mid-level financial role utilizing computerized financial and reporting systems, ideally Dynamics GP and Jet Reports
  • Strong computer & systems aptitude, including Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across various business units within the organization, proactively identify and respond to needs and inquiries, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills with the ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical, reasoning, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, respect in the workplace, and continued improvement of processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of the regulated Ontario electricity market, including retail electricity contracts and distribution regulations an asset
