JOURNEYPERSON POWERLINE TECHNICIAN

Located 15 minutes north of the 401, our office is accessible by GO Train and bus, and falls within a 35km radius of major urban centres, such as Guelph, Milton, Brampton, Mississauga, Cambridge, and Orangeville. We are currently seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of Journeyperson Powerline Technician. This position reports to the Operations Supervisor.  The successful candidate will be required to perform weekly standby duty, emergency and planned overtime on a regular basis and, therefore, must reside within a 35 km radius of the Acton Office.

DUTIES:

The duties for this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Construction, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system, including overhead and underground of various voltages (up to and including 44kV);
  • Perform live line work on overhead and underground electrical distribution lines of up to 44kV;
  • Weekly standby duty; emergency and planned overtime;
  • Manage ESA permits and necessary locate requirements;
  • Service and trouble-shoot electrical related issues;
  • Ensure all work meets ESA and internal requirements;
  • Responsible for completing work / service orders within the allotted time frames;
  • Ensure all installation/service work is done according to quality standards;
  • Report and communicate according to company procedures;
  • Assist with work overflow as needed;
  • Follow all company policies and procedures;
  • Adhere to all company safety policies; report all near-miss and incidents immediately;
  • Complete paperwork as required – job Planning, tailboards, timesheets, traffic planning
  • Performance of all work within health and safety regulations, company standards, industry standards and applicable regulatory codes;
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician;
  • Excellent knowledge of the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power lines;
  • Must be literate and able to perform manual mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division;
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret drawings;
  • Dedicated to maintaining a safe work environment for the protection of fellow employees and the general public. Must have an excellent safety record and continually demonstrate safe working habits and mechanical aptitude
  • Understand and practice EUSR Safety Rules, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA requirements and all other applicable legislation and safe work practices;
  • Current certificates in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS;
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing, working at heights and extreme weather conditions;
  • Proven interpersonal skills and practical experience effectively dealing with challenging customers and situations using tact and diplomacy;
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify and consider alternatives, and make recommendations on alternative directions;
  • Must be able to demonstrate focus and attention to detail. Must be organised;
  • Experience in the areas of safety, teambuilding, efficiency and productivity;
  • A valid Ontario’s Driver’s License in good standing with Class “DZ”;
  • Basic computer knowledge;
  • Must be in excellent physical condition to perform the duties.
