THE ORGANIZATION

With a lean, loyal, and productive team of 24 employees, this company supports the Local Distribution Company (LDC), Wasaga Distribution Inc. ‘the Utility,’ which distributes power and related services inside the Town of Wasaga Beach, a vibrant community with an ever-growing population. The present population is more than 25,000 and comprises a total service area of 61 square kilometres. The Utility serves approximately 15,000 residential and commercial customers.

The Town of Wasaga Beach is one of the fastest-growing communities in Ontario.

POSITION SUMMARY

Wasaga Resource Services Inc. is seeking two dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team in the roles of a Powerline Technician Apprentice. There will be consideration given to candidates seeking co-op placements or an early-stage Powerline Technician.

Preference will be given to candidates who are 3rd or 4th-year apprentice currently enrolled in a recognized Powerline Technician program. .  These roles will assist in constructing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical distribution systems, gaining valuable experience to advance their career in the utility sector.

These positions play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the electrical distribution system, supporting our commitment to powering the growing Wasaga Beach community.

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Constructing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (up to 44.4 kV).
  • Performing live line work on electrical distribution lines.
  • Installing poles, conductors, and associated apparatus.
  • Building and repairing underground cables and equipment.
  • Completing maintenance work, troubleshooting and restoring power during emergencies.
  • Operating motorized vehicles and equipment, including boom trucks.
  • Participating in clearing duties and working within substations as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Construction Verification Program (ESA 22:04).
  • Performing on-call duties when required.

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrollment in a recognized Powerline Technician program as a 3rd or 4th year apprentice.
  • Valid Class “A” driver’s license with “Z” endorsement preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Utility Work Protection Code (or willingness to acquire).
  • Familiarity with Electrical Utility Safety Rules and safe work practices.
  • Physical fitness to work at heights and in various weather
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
