Are you a dedicated professional with a passion for leadership and operational excellence?

We are seeking a Supervisor for our Lines team who will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and overseeing resources in the areas of construction, maintenance, and trouble response. You will collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and contractors to plan and coordinate the activities of the Lines department, ensuring safe, efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective service delivery.

What you’ll do

Project Coordination and Management:

  • Plan, organize, schedule, assign, and coordinate the activities of team members and contractors involved in the installation of overhead and underground distribution systems.
  • Assist in the design process to ensure proper completion and resource allocation, and support crews with design or process changes.
  • Obtain relevant records and paperwork for construction and maintenance programs.
  • Assist in project costing, accounting for expenditures, and providing instructions for customer invoicing.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure safe working conditions and procedures across all phases of utility operations, including the operation and maintenance of line vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide safety leadership by enforcing rules and regulations, conducting work observations and inspections, and identifying and addressing hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies, procedures, and standards.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, coach, and develop team members, providing performance management, technical guidance, and advice.
  • Ensure crews conduct quality job plans and proactively identify and address potential hazards.
  • Provide input into department goals and objectives.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Liaise with the control room for coordination of planned or unplanned outages.
  • Maintain positive interactions with employees, customers, and external stakeholders to optimize operational effectiveness.
  • Update planners and effectively communicate plans to the Control Room Operating Department. 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead and/or participate in department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget.
  • Research, recommend, and implement new or enhanced policies, procedures, and processes to improve operational effectiveness. 

Administration and On-Call Duties:

  • Ensure adherence to and effective administration of collective agreements.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and adherence to corporate values.
  • Provide on-call supervision as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who you are

Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • Certified Journeyperson/Tradesperson
  • E.T certification is an asset
  • Certified in the Utility Work Protection Code
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “AZ” driver’s license, in good standing
  • A thorough understanding of electric utility standards, practices and construction methods is mandatory
  • Knowledge of health & safety management systems and policies
  • Advanced knowledge of distribution systems standards and specifications, line construction and maintenance, standards and specifications, design review and development, and contractor management
  • Knowledge of the regulatory and legislative environment including Standards Manuals, E&USA Rule Book, IHSA Safe Practice Guides, Utility Work Protection Code, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as they pertain to the work
  • Proficiency in computing skills including MS Office applications, GIS applications, and Enterprise applications

Experience

  • Minimum of approximately ten (10) years’ experience in overhead and underground distribution line construction and maintenance within an electric utility environment as a Journeyperson Power Lines Technician/Line Maintainer
  • Approximately 5 years of demonstrated experience in a supervisory/lead role
  • Safe work record and strong safety orientation
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
  • Must be highly organized, possess good interpersonal & communication skills, and must be a team player with a positive attitude. 

Skills/Abilities/Competencies

  • Enhanced conflict resolution skills and the ability to handle difficult situations
  • Willingness to work on-call and/or emergency work duties
  • Strong ability to lead change and engage, develop and motivate teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions
  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to convey information accurately and concisely
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
