Journeyperson Powerline Technician

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with confidence on and around electrical distribution equipment in both normal and adverse conditions, including situations involving high elevations and in confined spaces.
  • Identify, Eliminate, and Control Hazards before the completion of tasks, and as conditions change
  • Work with confidence both in situations of high elevation and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and handle various heavy tools, equipment, etc. in difficult body positions and able to perform rescue techniques as required.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and solid understanding of basic electric circuit theory.
  • Must demonstrate a good safety record and be committed to working diligently towards a safer workplace.
  • Ability to work as a team member and be able to communicate effectively as required for overhead and underground work.
  • Must demonstrate an exceptional level of customer service and professionalism at all times.
  • Perform essential duties of the position including regular standby duties and the availability to respond to emergency after work hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (e.g., meter installations). 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Hold a valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician certification or equivalent.
  • Excellent working knowledge of and adherence to all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act rules and regulations, Provincial Environmental Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, the Utility Work Protection Code and Safe Practice Guides.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid ‘A’ or ‘D’ Ontario Driver’s License with a class ‘Z’ endorsement in good standing.
  • Must have valid CPR First Aid and AED certification.
  • Must be able to fulfill ‘on-call’ responsibilities.
  • Must live within 35 minutes from Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. office.
