POSITION SUMMARY

Milton Hydro Distribution Inc. is currently seeking a 3rd or 4th year Apprentice Powerline Technician. This position will report to the Supervisor, Operations and work towards increasing their levels of responsibility and knowledge through on-the-job training and experience. This position is responsible to support the construction, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of the electric distribution system (overhead and underground).

It is critical that the candidate will comply and be familiar with the Company work practices and standards, operating rules, regulations, as well as applicable OHSA regulations. 

KEY DUTIES

  • Performs live line work on overhead and underground electrical distribution lines
  • Assists with construction, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of the electrical distribution system
  • Performs work in physically demanding environment, which includes, heavy lifting, climbing, working at heights and the possibility of extreme weather conditions
  • Performs within health and safely regulations, company standards, industry standards and applicable regulatory codes
  • Services and trouble-shoots electrical related issues
  • Responsible for completing work and service orders in a timely manner
  • Ensures all installations and/or service work is done according to the required standards
  • Assists with work overflow as required
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes and advise supervisor of risks within business processes
  • Available for overtime as necessary
  • Supports other duties as assigned

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, judgement and decision-making skills
  • Strong communicator, excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills
  • Able to work from work orders, specifications, standards and instructions and to interpret prints, sketches and diagrams
  • Proficient in the use of all tools and equipment associated with the trade
  • Willingness and ability to learn and take instructions from supervisor and peers
  • Energetic, self-motivated and results-oriented
  • Ability to work effectively and safely in a team environment
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR/AED is an asset
  • Valid Class “D” driver’s license with “Z” endorsement is an asset

EDUCATION

  • Completion of post-secondary education is an asset.
  • The Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities Power Line Technician Certificate (or equivalent) in progress.
