DDP Technology is a growing company that specializes in Live C02 Blast cleaning and the inspection and maintenance of high voltage equipment. CO2 dry ice cleaning is rapidly becoming the preferred method of cleaning among the industrial, commercial, utility, and environmental sectors.

Position summary

Reporting to the Field Supervisor, the Powerline Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and quality-driven work environment. The Powerline Technician is responsible for working safely as part of a crew while completing maintenance and troubleshooting of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.  

This role requires:

Leadership – You will guide, inspire, and motivate your team.

Communication - Clear communication is critical in this role. You will relay information accurately and promptly between management and the crew.

Decision making – The Powerline Technician will have the ability to analyze situations quickly and make informed decisions.

Problem Solving – The Powerline Technician will be resourceful and innovative in addressing challenges to keep operations running smoothly.

Attention to detail – Overseeing diverse tasks and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards demands keen attention to detail. The ability to spot inconsistencies and potential issues is pivotal in maintaining a safe and effective work environment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Job planning and daily tailboard conference
  • Safe work set up – including but not limited to ensuing traffic control at job sites are in place
  • Proficient in testing and trouble shooting of overhead and underground circuits
  • Proficient in utilizing UWPC to establish hold offs and work permits
  • Utilize and operate motorized vehicles and equipment, such as trucks, radial boom derricks, aerial devices, and portable generators, in a safe manner.
  • Assist with training of Apprentice Powerline Technicians
  • Support and participate in job specific training and programs.
  • Perform data collection utilizing approved collection materials
  • Visual inspections and maintenance on high voltage electrical equipment
  • Identify potential hazards
  • Capture and document non-compliance issues, including photographs, descriptions, and technical references
  • Perform Live C02 blast cleaning of high voltage electrical equipment
  • Assume the Lead Powerline Technician duties when required

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Lineperson / Powerline Technician Certification (Red Seal certification is required)
  • Be authorized and licensed to work in Ontario
  • Provide a current criminal record check and suitable drivers abstract
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License in good standing, preferably AZ or DZ licence
  • Understand and practice EUSR Safety Rules, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA requirements and all other applicable legislation and safe work practices
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing, working at heights and extreme weather conditions
  • Successful candidate MUST be willing and able to report daily to the Hamilton office/shop location

Current certificates in First Aid, working at heights, Confined Space and UWPC would be considered an asset.

Additional information about this role

  • Competitive wage based on experience – Starting at $50.00/hr.
  • 4-day work week – 10- 11 hour shifts.

  • Annual performance bonus of up to $3,000

Most of the required work is in the GTA. Travelling will be expected for out-of-town contracts. This is a great opportunity for a Tradesman that wants to work in a relaxed, team environment.
