Are you a skilled engineer with a passion for designing and managing projects related to transformer and municipal substations?

We are seeking an Engineer, Stations to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with Asset Management and Network Operations, taking the lead in the design and project management of capital projects and programs aimed at expanding, enhancing, or sustaining Alectra’s fleet of transformer stations and municipal substations.

What you’ll do

Engineering Design and Technical Support:

  • Develop comprehensive engineering designs and select appropriate equipment for Transformer and Municipal Station capital work programs.
  • Provide technical engineering support for the development of protection and control schemes.
  • Offer engineering and technical assistance to Station Sustainment and Protection & Control Departments, focusing on operation and protection parameters.

Project Management:

  • Lead and manage projects for capital work programs, including scope definition, business case preparation, budget control, and schedule management.
  • Oversee the RFP process for substation projects in collaboration with other business units.
  • Manage Distributed Energy Resources (DER) connections and conduct detailed connection impact assessment studies for both load and DER customers.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Compliance:

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely, budget-compliant project implementation in accordance with established safety and technical standards.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies, procedures, and standards.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline or automate processes to enhance service delivery.

Who you are

Education & Technical Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a recognized equivalent.
  • Registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in good standing.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and industry best practices.
  • Understanding of regulatory, governmental, and environmental requirements (OEB Rules and Regulations, PIPEDA, OH&S, EUSA Rules, WHMIS, and TDG Act).
  • Knowledge of technical and safety specifications/standards, including CSA, CEA, Ontario Regulation 22/04, Utility Work Protection Code, and IEEE.
  • Strong knowledge of Project Management methodologies.
  • Familiarity with software programs such as Cyme Dist, Cyme TCC, Cyme Cap, AutoCAD, ESRI GIS, JD Edwards is beneficial.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

 Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with transformer stations and protection and control systems is advantageous.
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment is an asset.

  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on practical and innovative solutions for complex technical issues.
  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects within established timelines.
  • Capacity to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license.
