Financial Reporting Analyst (Whitby – 1 Opening)

Reports to Manager, Financial Reporting & Controller and supports the financial reporting activities of the company. This position also assists in tax and tax audits, treasury and cash management.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

+       Manages and executes on goal-oriented tasks and/or projects established by the Manager to achieve departmental objectives.

+       Prepare, maintain and create financial statements and reports in Cognos Disclosure Management (CDM) and Microsoft Management Reporter (MR).

+       Prepare financial statement variance analysis and commentary.

+       Assists with the review and preparation of financial statements as well as complete, timely, and comprehensive monthly and yearly working paper files and analyses.

+       Assists with preparation for external financial audit.

+       Prepare ongoing reconciliations between IFRS and OEB reporting requirements.

+       Prepare corporate tax returns, tax installment remittances, assist with tax audits and liaise with auditors on tax matters.

+       Perform IFRS research and assist with developing accounting policies and procedures to comply with IFRS, tax requirements, and management reporting requirements.

+       Prepare internal documentation and position papers to comply with IFRS, tax requirements, management reporting requirements and any OEB decisions or orders in the application of IFRS.

+       Interpret accounting requirements as per new legislation and regulations and assist with ensuring compliance with accounting pronouncements.

+       Review, assess and improve internal financial controls and reporting.

+       Assists with the cash forecasting activities for the organization, including day to day cash balance management and cash forecasting.

+       Assists with the preparation of distribution rate applications by providing financial information and variance analysis.

+       Assists with preparing the Management Discussion and Analysis for the Annual Report.

+       Elexicon Corporation Support including the following:

+       Prepares internal management reporting and Board reporting including financial statement commentary and other reports as required.

+       Prepares and consolidates financial statements, including notes to the financial statements, in accordance with IFRS Accounting Standards.

+       Prepare various financial analyses and reports, including but not limited to capital structure, financing, cashflow, tax, unregulated business and assets.

+       Assist with ensuring compliance with Ontario Energy Board regulatory instruments inclusive of: (1) Accounting Procedures Handbook, (2) Uniform System Accounts, and (3) Reporting and Record Requirements.

+       Attend to administrative matters as may be delegated by the manager and maintain confidentiality in all matters of a personal and sensitive nature.

+       Assist with ad hoc analysis/reporting on various financial and non-financial data.

+       Other duties as required may be considered part of these responsibilities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFULL 

+       Ability to exercise independent judgment and perform all assigned duties with minimal supervision.

+       Advanced Excel skills and proficient in other Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

+       Experience with support and implementation of financial information and reporting systems – preferably CDM, Microsoft Dynamics GP, MR, and Tier 1 ERP systems such as SAP.

+       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

+       Experience with regulated business submissions in a utility environment is a definite asset.

+       Advanced knowledge of the Ontario Energy Board Accounting Procedures Handbook for Electric Distribution Utilities is a definite asset.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

+       University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.

+       Chartered Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).

+       5 years’ accounting and financial analysis experience.
