The City of Guelph is the sole shareholder of Guelph Municipal Holding Inc. (GMHI), a municipal corporation established by the City in 2011.   Created under the Ontario Business Corporations Act and working within the confines of the Municipal Act, GMHI is an exciting, innovative, for-profit corporation creating value for the community by providing oversight of City assets.  At the present time, GMHI provides oversight to Guelph Hydro, with a net book value worth $66.8 million, and Envida Community Energy Inc.

As the Business Advisor for GMHI you will conduct research, provide strategic advice, business support and project management expertise for the CEO and board of the corporation.  You will utilize your unique understanding, knowledge and experience of both the private and public sectors to evaluate opportunities that leverage public and private assets to improve value and community benefit.  Reporting to the CEO of GMHI, you will:

  • Conduct research, analyze and evaluate findings to prepare/critically assess business cases and private sector opportunities

  • Manage projects and programs from conception to implementation, facilitate project activities at different stages and oversee all areas of project management including schedules, deliverables, progress reports, milestones and performance assessment criteria

  • Provide comprehensive risk impact analysis and assessment on issues identified

  • Determine alternative and optimum solutions to resolve issues and provide advice to senior management

  • Prepare various technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner for senior decision makers and stakeholders, including briefing notes, council reports and other corresponde 

With experience in complex or highly legislated and/or regulated environments, you are able to meet multiple challenges with the entrepreneurial spirit required of a start-up company.  Your previous responsibilities will have included elements of working within or cooperatively with various sectors of government in the areas of business strategy and project management.  You have knowledge of the regulated and unregulated energy industries and have experience with mergers, acquisitions and related change management business processes.  You have excellent research, planning, communication and presentation skills and can demonstrate the use of these skills in your past experience.
