Oshawa Power maintains 1000 km of overhead and underground distribution lines within a 150 km2 service territory, operated at 44 and 13.8 kV, supplied by 9 distribution and 3 transmission substations. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a high performing Manager of Technology to join our team and support our evolving technology needs.

Reporting to the CTO & Director Business Transformation, the Manager of Technology is responsible for the effective advancement of information technology infrastructure and services across the Oshawa Power Group of Companies. This position is responsible for oversight for both IT and OT cyber security, technology projects, resource management and staff supervision, and for effectively engaging with the executive team, business unit leaders, industry peers, and end users. With a service-oriented and problem-solving mindset the Manager energetically partners with the business to drive excitement, business value and solutions using technology, with a steady hand to maintain rigour, security and best practices, coupled with creativity and curiosity that is willing to adopt new ideas and technologies.

The successful candidate will provide steady and cohesive leadership, bringing clarity and calm while effectively prioritizing competing demands. They will lead the development and maturation of operational processes and best practices, demonstrating a decisive, take-charge approach informed by deep experience in IT, both as a hands-on practitioner and as a strategic leader. This individual is highly engaged in all aspects of the role, offering mentorship and guidance to technology staff while earning the trust and respect of their team and peers as a capable leader and reliable solutions provider.

This position is open due to a vacancy and offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $135,000 to $145,000, along with 4 weeks of vacation. Final compensation will be based on experience, skills, and overall fit for the role. In addition to the base salary Oshawa Power offers highly competitive benefits, employee reimbursement programs, and bonus structure.

As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to be involved with:

  • People:
    • Maintaining a high performance, highly motivated, engaged and happy technology team;
    • Working with business owners and SMEs across the organization to support/enhance/implement LOB applications, maintaining excellent working partnerships;
    • Building and maintaining a robust service desk practice, with an eye on customer service and data-driven reductions in reactive work, using proactive planning to minimize incidents;
  • Cyber Security:
    • Responsible for Cyber Security across the organization, including IT/OT infrastructure, applications, AI, training, business continuity, disaster recovery, risk management, incident response, and compliance;
    • Responsible for establishing and maintaining compliance with appropriate standards, including working towards enterprise-wide SOC compliance within 3 years.
  • Infrastructure:
    • Overseeing the design, operation, and maintenance of all technology infrastructure in the organization, both IT and OT, both on premise and cloud;
    • Responsible for enterprise architecture, able to lead and oversee architecture design and documentation as needed.
  • Applications:
    • Overseeing the planning, operation and maintenance of all enterprise and line-of-business applications, working closely with business owners of each application to provide solutions for business needs and proactive continuous improvement;
    • Responsible for application and interface architecture design, ensuring scalability, security and operational effectiveness.
  • Management:
    • Responsible for IT/OT program and project management (in cooperation with PMO;
    • Responsible for technology capital and operating budgets, including hardware, software, licensing, expenses, and labour;
    • Responsible for all technology vendor management, acting as liaison (along with the IT team) between vendors and the business;
    • Responsible for writing and ensuring compliance with all technology-related policies, in cooperation with the CTO.

 WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant post-graduate training in Computer Science, Information Systems, or relevant field;
  • Minimum ten (10) years progressive information systems experience in a leadership capacity;
  • Advanced analytical, project management, strategic planning, and cost control skills to ensure effective, timely, and on-budget outcomes;
  • Strong knowledge of networking, operating systems, software development cycles, and server architecture;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with VPN networks, firewalls, and other aspects of network design and security;
  • Strong customer-focused orientation with focus on partnering with the business to provide solutions;
  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise cyber security, including obtaining third party certifications.
  • Analytical with excellent reasoning & decision-making skills; ability to conduct research to support decisions and recommendations;
  • Ability to energize, convince and motivate;
  • Willingness to be a hands-on working manager, working closely with technology staff.
  • Experience in an electrical utility environment considered an asset.
