JOURNEYPERSON POWERLINE TECHNICIAN

JOB RATE: $51.86/hr – 40hrs/week

We are seeking a Journeyperson Powerline Technician to join the team at Orangeville Hydro Limited. In this role, you will handle the day‑to‑day construction, operation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system serving more than 13,000 customers in the Towns of Orangeville and Grand Valley.

This position requires regular weekly standby duty, response to emergencies, and planned overtime. As a result, candidates must reside within 35 minutes of our Orangeville office.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform all line construction and maintenance work in connection with underground and overhead power distribution systems in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Be familiar with and use all safe working practices as set out by Orangeville Hydro.
  • Be able to operate bucket trucks, radial boom derricks, hydraulic equipment and all other equipment and tools used in line construction and maintenance.
  • Perform industry standard troubleshooting, service, operating and testing work on Orangeville Hydro power distribution network consisting of all voltage levels up to and including 27.6 kV and 44 kV.
  • Perform tree trimming as required.
  • Participate in Job planning / tailboard conferences.
  • Assume the Lead Powerline Technician duties when required.
  • Complete inspections of newly installed and modified distribution plant in accordance with Reg 22/04 and construction verification program, including completing records of inspection forms.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician 434A or registered Apprentice with level 3 completion.
  • Excellent knowledge of the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power lines.
  • An energetic, motivated individual with a good work ethic and strong oral and written communication skills
  • Possess a Valid Class DZ Driver’s License with a good driver’s abstract.
  • Must be in good health and physically fit for year-round outdoor line work, in all elements.
  • Effective communication skills to successfully interact with customers and peers.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to the team approach of project management.
  • Ability to use sound judgment is flexible and responsible.
  • Must be able to demonstrate focus and attention to detail.
  • Dedicated to maintaining a safe work environment for the protection of fellow employees and the public. Must have an excellent safety record and continually demonstrate safe working habits and mechanical aptitude, understand and practice Electrical Utility Safety Rules, The Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, ESA requirements and all other legislation and safe work practices.
