Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of FortisOntario Inc., acts as the Project Manager of Wataynikaneyap Power LP (“Wataynikaneyap Power”). Wataynikaneyap Power is a licensed transmission entity, majority-owned by a partnership of 24 First Nation communities in partnership with Fortis Inc. and other private investors. The partnership is an unprecedented undertaking and has constructed 1,800 kilometres of 230 kV, 115 kV, and 44 kV transmission lines and 22 substations in northwestern Ontario. Located near Thunder Bay in our Fort William First Nation, ON office, Wataynikaneyap Power is currently recruiting for a talented:

Bamijikewin (Vegetation Management) Coordinator - Full-Time Permanent Position

The Bamijikewin (Vegetation Management) Coordinator is responsible for the development and oversight of Wataynikaneyap Power’s Bamijikewin (Vegetation Management) Plan and Program. The role serves as a vegetation management expert, integrating Indigenous participation and engagement, regulatory and legislative requirements, industry best practices, and program management to support effective planning and delivery of vegetation management activities aligned with the Plan. The Coordinator works collaboratively with internal and external partners to support decision making and advance a sustainable and efficient vegetation management program, ensuring all assigned work is carried out accurately and efficiently while demonstrating a personal commitment to the safety of co workers, the public, oneself, and the environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree, diploma, or a combination of education and experience in Forestry, Horticulture, Environment or related field.
  • Utility Arborist Certification is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years’ work experience in vegetation management or a related field.
  • High-level of respect for Indigenous Peoples and their culture, language, and traditions.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical utility systems and the relation of these systems to vegetation management.
  • Knowledge of sound arboricultural standards and best management practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written) and can easily liaise and interact with all types of personalities while maintaining professionalism.
  • Effective problem-solving and prioritization skills, with the ability to take initiative and manage competing demands in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficient computer skills for preparing reports, correspondence, and program documentation.
  • Perform high volume of tasks while having the ability to prioritize as needed.
  • Demonstrated high level of attention to accuracy and proven attention to detail.
  • Experience working with or for First Nations will be considered an asset.
  • Must have a valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and maintain a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Travel to remote locations using various methods (helicopter, off-road vehicle, etc.) is required.
