ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST - CONSTRUCTION

 

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Construction Management, The Engineering Technologist - Construction, is accountable for administration and project management for Oakville Hydro’s construction program. 

Duties include:

  • Prepare and administer underground construction contracts

  • Assist in preparation of capital budget proposals

  • Project management for Oakville Hydro’s construction program

  • Construction site inspection of work by outside contractors to ensure work is done in accordance with Oakville Hydro’s  plans, standards, specifications, and processing contractor payments

  • Assist in designing, preparing bill of materials and work orders for various projects including underground electrical distribution design (for new and rebuild projects) and new electrical service design (residential, industrial, commercial)

  • Utilize various desktop computer software applications

  • Maintain related field and other records for permanent documentation of Oakville Hydro’s distribution system.

  • Work in compliance with all health and safety and environmental legislation including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Oakville Hydro’s Policies and Procedures. 

  • Other duties assigned by supervisor 

Qualifications and Success Factors:

  • Graduate of a 3 year Electrical or Civil Engineering Technology program

  • Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T. (or be eligible for registration)

  • 3 to 5 years relevant field experience with an electrical utility

  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence with an excellent driving record

  • Demonstrate a high degree of technical competence in design work 

  • Competent user of standard office computer software applications

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills with both internal and external clients

  • Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems and exercise independent judgment

  • Ability to retain acquired knowledge, prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Excellent safety and attendance record
