Engineering Technologist - Construction

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic individual with exceptional customer service and technical skills. The Engineering Technologist, Construction, coordinates field construction activities associated with electrical service connections for residential, commercial, and industrial developments, as well as distribution system rebuild and infrastructure renewal projects. The role serves as the primary liaison between field construction and the engineering and design teams, ensuring work is executed in accordance with OH standards, approved designs, and project schedules.

Duties include:

  • Coordinate field construction activities associated with electrical distribution projects, including service connections, system upgrades, and infrastructure renewal work
  • Liaise with contractors, developers, consultants, and internal teams to facilitate construction activities and support the timely delivery of projects
  • Monitor construction progress and coordinate project schedules to support the efficient execution of the construction program
  • Conduct field reviews of construction work to verify installations align with OH standards, specifications, and certified design drawings
  • Identify deficiencies or non-compliant installations that require corrective action prior to acceptance of work
  • Coordinate the resolution of field issues by facilitating communication between contractors, engineering, and internal stakeholders, including coordinating escalations and supporting engineering review of field conditions
  • Support the implementation of approved design revisions during construction
  • Assist with construction planning, including field investigations, material coordination, and preparation of supporting documentation such as bills of material, work orders, and design support
  • Support the administration of construction contracts, including tracking progress, coordinating work activities, reviewing contractor quantity submissions and invoice documentation for accuracy, and identifying issues impacting project delivery
  • Maintain accurate records of construction activities, installed assets, and project documentation
  • Conduct site safety audits and observations to verify adherence to applicable safety requirements and report any concerns to the constructor and internal stakeholders
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completion of a 3-year Engineering Technology diploma or a 4-year Engineering degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T., or licenced Professional Engineer with PEO (or be eligible for registration)
  • Minimum 5 years relevant field experience with an electrical utility or related company
  • Extensive use and strong knowledge of design work and project management
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of electrical theory, and familiarity with power system operations, practices, and installation standards
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office programs, and related computer software applications
  • Experience in safety as it relates to design and job planning
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence with an excellent driving record
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
