Journeyperson Powerline Technician

Grimsby Power is located in the Town of Grimsby, on the western edge of the Region of Niagara. Grimsby Power serves over 12,000 customers and is committed to providing the Town of Grimsby with an economical, safe, and reliable supply of energy.

Grimsby Power is looking for an experienced and competent team player with strong mechanical and technical aptitude, extensive knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, and demonstrated experience in the construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical distribution infrastructure. Interested candidates must apply in writing to express their interest in the position, outlining their education, experience, and related qualifications. 

The successful applicant will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Certificate of Qualification as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician (434A) issued by Skilled Trades Ontario or an equivalent recognized apprenticeship and certification program. Consideration may also be given to registered fourth-year Powerline Technician apprentice who is actively progressing toward certification.
  • Must be proficient in the use of all equipment associated with the Powerline Technician trade
  • Must be able to perform work from work instruction specifications and standards and to interpret prints, sketches, and diagrams;
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the Journeyperson Powerline Technician position (outdoors, climbing, lifting, pulling, and moving in and out of the bucket);
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and
  • Perform scheduled on-call duties and respond to emergency call-outs as required to support service restoration during outages, storms, and other system emergencies.
  • When on-call, be available to respond and report to the Grimsby Power Operations Centre at 231 Roberts Road, Grimsby, within 35 minutes under normal driving and weather conditions.

Education, and Required Licenses:

  • Certificate of Qualification as a Powerline Technician (434A) or equivalent, or a registered fourth-year Powerline Technician Apprentice who is actively progressing toward certification.
  • A high school diploma with a minimum of Grade 12. A Community College Diploma in electrical technology or a related field of study is an asset;
  • Valid Class ‘AZ’ ‘AZ’ (restricted) or ‘DZ’ driver’s license and an excellent driving record
