DIRECTOR, FINANCE


London Hydro is currently seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to fill a vacancy in the position of Director, Finance. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Finance provides leadership across the organization’s full cycle accounting and financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, audit, internal controls, accounts receivable and payable, financial systems, and regulatory compliance. As a key partner to senior leadership, the Director provides financial expertise, insight, and analysis to support informed decision-making, strengthen financial governance and business processes, and advance London Hydro’s corporate goals and long-term strategic objectives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Team Leadership: Lead and provide technical and administrative direction to the finance department, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategy & Leadership: Participate in setting corporate and division goals and targets, ensuring alignment between financial strategy, operational priorities, and long‑term corporate objectives. Ensure corporate goals, targets, policies and legislated regulatory requirements, are being met internally and externally. Collaborate with Senior Leadership to strengthen financial governance by shaping clear, consistent policies that align processes, roles, and decision‑making across the organization. Review operating results/communicate significant issues to CFO, adding strategic recommendations and scenario‑based insights. Represent the corporation, maintain beneficial business relationships and advance the Company’s position through participation in external stakeholder committees, and consultations.
  • Financial Planning, Monitoring, Budgeting & Forecasting: Establish a budget process plan and budget guidelines, monitor progress, review submissions, and consolidate corporate operating and capital plans. Design schedules and analysis to assist with budget review and finalization. Establish variance reporting to assist in monitoring actual performance to budget. Monitor corporate AR, analyze provision for bad debt, and recommend changes to provision as required. Oversee the maintenance and implementation of AP business processes. Complete annual close processing, database integrity audits, and periodic master file revisions and maintenance. Establish a financial forecasting program comparing monthly projections to annual budgets across all business units, reducing forecast variance and driving leadership accountability. Work with the CFO on Pro-Forma financial projections for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Financial Reporting & Controls: Oversee the monthly and quarterly internal financial reporting process. Complete the quarterly and yearly external financial reports. Draft the quarterly and year-end financial statements. Assist in the completion of the MD&A for quarterly and annual public reporting. Review working paper files, and complete commentary explaining changes. Serve as principal contact with external financial auditors. Review internal control procedures, establish new controls and/or modify existing controls as required. Develop tax provisions, schedules, payments and reports and coordinate outsourced tax preparation work Oversee the Corporation’s use of financial systems and associated databases, and ensure the availability of financial information and insights for end users. Monitor and report on key financial performance metrics (KPIs).
  • Regulatory, Compliance & Governance: Provide the information required associated with the reconciliation between the external IFRS financial results and the OEB required submissions. Develop and/or complete appropriate supporting analysis as required. Prepare thorough, persuasive narrative evidence, arguments, forecasts and analyses in support of corporate positions in rate and regulatory applications/filings. Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and legal filing requirements.
  • Safety: Ensure personal and direct reports’ adherence to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, IHSA safety rules, London Hydro Safe Work Practices, Environmental Policies and Health and Safety policies. Ensure all incidents, injuries, and hazards are reported and reviewed and that corrective actions are taken. Complete workplace audits, action items and follow-ups.
  • Perform other duties related to the above job purpose.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a related field is preferred, PLUS a Professional Accounting designation is required.
  • A minimum of nine (9) years of progressive financial and management experience.
  • Specialized utility industry knowledge, including regulatory requirements and IFRS accounting.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Energy Board (OEB) code, regulations, procedures, record-keeping and reporting, rate applications and filing requirements.
  • Proficiency in JD Edwards financial accounting software.
  • Proven ability to prepare detailed models and analyses of rates and related financial data.
  • Experience liaising with senior management and external agencies.
  • Strong leadership, management, and supervisory skills. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective cross-functional relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent judgment, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Analytical, detail oriented and committed to accuracy.
  • Professional and effective oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
  • Position necessitates a high degree of tact, diplomacy, discretion, confidentiality and integrity.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid Driver’s License Class G
