Cornwall Electric, a FortisOntario company, who provides electrical transmission and distribution to approximately 28,000 customers in and around the Cornwall/Gananoque areas; has an employment opportunity for a:

 

JOURNEYMAN POWERLINE TECHNICIAN

 

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Lines Services, Line Foreman and/or Line Lead Hand(s), the incumbents will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and construction of overhead and underground distribution lines. The candidates will become part of a crew who construct, repair, maintain and perform live line work on overhead/underground electrical distribution lines at voltages of up to 27,600 V. 

The successful candidates will live or be willing to relocate within twenty (20) minutes of the Cornwall Electric Service Center and will be required to perform regular on-call duties as assigned. Candidates will be required to comply and be familiar with Company work practices and standards, operating rules and regulations, as well as all pertinent OHSA regulations. 

The successful candidates will have the following minimum qualifications: 

  • Certified as a Journeyman Powerline Technician under the EDA Powerline Training program or equivalent. Must be licensed to work in Ontario.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario “Restricted” AZ driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months to operate the vehicles handled in this position. Must maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions.
  • Working general knowledge of line materials, trade related practices/standards and operating rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is an asset.
  • Good communications and reporting writing skills (English) as well as establish and maintain an effective working relationship with internal/external customers and industry partners.

For APPRENTICES to be considered, they MUST have satisfactory completion of a 3rd Year Accredited Lineman Training Program and the willingness to continue completion of the 4th Year Apprenticeship. Apprentices may submit their application, but consideration will be at the sole discretion of the Company.
