Thunder Bay Hydro currently has an opening for the position of Distribution Engineer the Asset Management & Engineering Department / Power Systems Division. Under the general direction and guidance of the Asset Management & Engineering Manager, the Distribution Engineer is responsible to provide engineering services for internal and external customers. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of the distribution system through electrical system modeling. 

Applicants with the following qualifications are invited to submit their interest: 

Mandatory Qualifications: Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario. Experience in Engineering design of electrical power utility distribution or industrial/commercial plant power distribution, including successful project experience. Knowledge of, and/or experience with, power systems containing multi-generation sources is required.   A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, customer service, frontline leadership and teamwork principles is necessary. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills. This position is dynamic and the successful candidate must be resourceful and be willing to take initiative to remain updated with new technologies and regulations. Advanced knowledge of computers and engineering software, including programming experience, is required. Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act. 

Preferred Qualifications: Good knowledge of power distribution system design. Knowledge of and experience with drafting contract documents. Excellent knowledge of engineering computer applications software. Excellent knowledge of protective relaying. Experience with SCADA systems and computer networking. Knowledge of the Ontario energy market and its significant players (ie. the OEB, Hydro One, and IESO). 

Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License with an excellent driving record and the use of a vehicle.   Must be willing to work overtime as required. Must successfully complete a Police Information Check.
