SYSTEM CONTROL SUPERVISOR

 

Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro Inc. is a local distribution company that is responsible for distributing electricity to approximately 95,000 homes and businesses within the City of Kitchener and Township of Wilmot. 

In this leadership role, you will supervise and manage the day to day operations in the control room and provide guidance and direction to the Station Operators and Apprentices to ensure that the system is optimized and running efficiently. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the operating control of the transformer stations and distribution system including co-ordination of the system with neighbouring utilities and the supply authority.
  • Approve the scheduling of switching and supervise the preparation of the “Order to Operate”, in response to requests for system switching, isolation and/or work protection.
  • Must work closely with staff, other supervisors, field personnel, technicians, engineers, contractors, etc. to prioritize and coordinate outage requirements and maintain regular communication with customers.
  • Monitor adherence to the Utility Work Protection Code, work standards and all safety procedures including involvement when needed in accident/incident investigations and conducting safety meetings.
  • Establish and maintain systems and procedures to respond to emergency situations and effect orderly restoration of the system.
  • Assist in the planning process for additions and modifications to the distribution system and transformer stations.
  • Assist in defining the specifications and ordering of SCADA and associated equipment.

Qualifications

  •  Requires a minimum of a three-year college diploma in the Electrical Engineering Technology program
  • Completion of MEA Journeyman Electrical Operators Program is preferrred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience preferably in power system operations and control
  • Have good verbal and written communications skills and have the ability to deal with internal and external clients in a courteous and businesslike manner 
  • Strong computer skills including SCADA, GIS, OMS and Windows applications
  • Must have strong leadership qualities exemplified by an ability to effectively and tactfully supervise, direct, coordinate and mentor a team
  • Safe work record and strong safety orientation with strong knowledge and application of IHSA rules and the Utility Work Protection Code
  • Class 'G' driver's license in good standing
