The Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) is part of Ontario’s health and safety system, which includes the Ministry of Labour (MOL), the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), and six health and safety associations. IHSA is a leader in health and safety education. Through skills-based training, auditing, and evaluation, we provide safety solutions to those who perform high-risk activities. Our goal is to support safe and healthy workplaces free from incidents, injuries, illnesses or fatalities.

SALARY:                                          $106,419.66 – $125,169.30 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The UWPC Coordinator will be responsible for assessing the health and safety training needs and providing a high level of health and safety training/programs to both member and non-member firms. The duties will include, but are not limited to scheduling, designing, delivering, recommending and evaluating training programs for clients within Ontario and, at times, nationally and internationally for the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA). The UWPC Coordinator reports directly to the Manager, Powerline Apprenticeship and Training. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Post-secondary education completion and an industry related skilled trade designation.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred.
  • Successful completion of Z1000 Lead Auditor and 18001 Internal Auditor considered an asset.
  • Currently certified in the Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC).
  • 10 years related experience in the Utility and/or Generation Sector of practical application of the Utility Work Protection Code and 5 years of experience performing UWPC audits.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Utility Work Protection Code. 
  • Qualified Instructor of UWPC for both System Operator and Lines.
  • Thorough knowledge of auditing principles, methodologies, trends, standards and external changes influencing auditing requirements.
  • Previous front line supervisory experience a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of program development, delivery, adult training and education principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Health and Safety management systems, programs, services and current federal and provincial legislation.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Infrastructure Health and Safety industry and network.
  • Able to effectively operate a computer and applicable software along with other relevant technology equipment (audio/visual equipment, fall protection training equipment and other pertinent industry specific tools).
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), internet and intranet software.
  • Excellent communication skills to deal effectively with staff throughout the organization, external members, suppliers and government contacts (WSIB, MOL, HRDC) to demonstrate new work methods, explore new programs, exchange information, transfer knowledge, assess the health and safety training needs of member and non-member firms to align with the WSIB, MOL, HRDC prevention concepts and activities, and schedule, design, deliver and evaluate training programs within the sectors.
  • Creative, energetic, self-motivated and results-oriented.
  • Proven team player; who is both flexible and adaptable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, persuade and communicate with people at all levels within the organization and with local, regional and national stakeholders.
  • Analytical person to systematically break down complex issues related to assessing the health and safety training needs of member and non-member firms and schedule, design, deliver and evaluate training programs.
  • First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certifications.
  • Valid Ontario G Class driver’s license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel extensively.
