BILLING CLERK

Reporting to the Billing Manager, this position is responsible for the competencies, accuracy and maintenance of all residential and commercial water/wastewater billing records and acts as a liaison for the Region of Halton regarding all water/wastewater queries. Based on direction from the Manager and relative to your training and experience; objectives include but are not limited to the following: 

KEY DUTIES:

  • Maintain all residential and commercial water/wastewater billing records in accordance with the terms of the Region contract
  • Work with the variance report; review and fix billing exceptions
  • Process residential and commercial water corrections and issue corrected bills as required
  • Run and process various reports to maintain accuracy of water records
  • Prepare monthly Region spreadsheet in a timely manner
  • Follow Region of Halton’s best business practices
  • Process connects, disconnects and meter changes from the Region
  • Contact customers advising them of large catch up bills and high consumption as directed by the Region
  • Process “Red Card” using automated phone system
  • Daily coordination of meter reading schedule with contractor
  • Investigate and verify suggested billing adjustment requests from Customer Service department
  • Back up other department positions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have the following: 

  • Knowledge of billing and EBT practices and procedures
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Electricity Market Rules, the Distribution System Code, Retail Settlement Code
  • Experience with electricity billing would be an asset
  • Demonstrated interest in process improvements
  • Flexible with change, able to work in an ambiguous environment
  • Experience in documenting and updating procedures for co-workers
  • Excellent written and verbal professional communication skills
  • Excellent administration, analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills; a good work ethic with a positive approach to work and coworkers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
  • Post-Secondary education would be an asset
  • Computer knowledge at intermediate level with Microsoft Office
