Position Purpose:

The Supervisor, Station Sustainment leads the execution of the construction and maintenance substation program to ensure substation equipment delivers a reliable supply of electricity. This position oversees scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs/replacements, commissioning and decommissioning of Municipal Stations and ancillary equipment in the Alectra territory of Mississauga; it provides support when required with commissioning and maintenance of Customer Owned Stations. Utilization of the corporate Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to achieve optimal efficiency and tracking is paramount in this role. The incumbent requires Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) qualifications. 

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Provides required leadership and guidance to employees and hired contractors engaged in the day-to-day operation of maintaining and constructing medium voltage substation equipment
  • Plans, organizes and supervises daily activities of operational unit
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Aids in the development and administration of reliability centred maintenance (RCM) program strategies, asset registration, and business performance improvements on the operation/maintenance of Municipal and Customer Stations and associated equipment
  • Develops long and short-term maintenance schedules on various pieces of MS and CS Station equipment using CASCADE Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Coordinates System Outages with System Control
  • Provides coaching, development, performance management, technical guidance and advice
  • Leads and/or participates in department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
  • Researches, recommends and implements new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness
  • Provides input into department goals and objectives including Capital and Operating budgets 

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Coordinates periodic data collection efforts for station equipment to provide prescribed information for the Asset Condition Assessment model for station equipment
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards including ESA 22/04 requirements 

Relationship Management

  • Co-ordinates Municipal and Customer Station services activities with those of other departments, contractors, agencies and customers
  • Responds to customer inquiries 

Resource Management

  • Utilizes CASCADE CMMS to track Municipal and Customer Station asset maintenance history
  • Identifies and ensures an adequate level of spare equipment parts is maintained and on hand for emergency purposes 

Safety Leadership

  • Ensure all aspects of Company’s safety philosophy is executed and adhered to
  • Support and promote the corporate safety culture
  • Ensures all safety audits and work observations are completed and all incidents are investigated in a timely fashion 

Skills & Qualifications:

Education: 

  • Certified as a Journeyperson Substation Electrician
  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma related to Electrical Engineering or recognized equivalent
  • Registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) in good standing (preferred)
  • Certified in the Utility Work Protection Code
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class G driver’s license 

Experience: 

  • Minimum 10 years of MS Station maintenance and operation experience in electrical distribution
  • Experience in MS Station maintenance, Troubleshooting, failure investigation, substation engineering, protection and control
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset 

Specialized Knowledge: 

  • In depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe work practices and procedures, including Electrical Utility safety rules
  • In depth knowledge of MS Station equipment maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of various electrical equipment test processes and operation
  • Strong knowledge of Station and electrical distribution systems with an understanding of engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of regulatory and governmental requirements (OEB Rules and Regulations, PIPEDA and OHSA)
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
