Third or Fourth Year Powerline Technician Apprentices Will Be Considered

The Powerline Technician position is responsible for carrying out all aspects of the Powerline Technician trade, including the construction, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the power distribution and street lighting systems. The incumbent is responsible for safe and efficient installations that limit power outages and minimize service disruptions.

Applications will be considered from candidates who meet the following minimum qualifications:

• The candidate must be a Journeyman Powerline Technician holding a certificate issued by MEARIE or an Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate of Qualification (Ontario Trade Code 434A) or an approved equivalent. Will consider an Apprentice with 4000 hours of experience as a Powerline Technician who has successfully completed three years of line school.
• Grade 12 Secondary School Graduation Diploma.
• Must have a valid Class 'AZ' driver's licence. Will consider an applicant with a Class 'DZ' license provided that it is upgraded to Class 'AZ' within six months.
• Must become certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR within twelve months.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must demonstrate an ability to interpret drawings, sketches and diagrams and to work from verbal and written instructions, specifications and standards.
• Must have some experience operating a variety of tools and equipment.
• Must be able to perform the duties of the job including manual labour, work in underground vaults and physically able to climb poles and work at heights.
• Must deal with fellow employees and the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

The successful candidates will be required to be available for emergency call-outs and occasional work on nights and weekends.
