Distribution Engineer

Bluewater Power Distribution Corporation is the founding member of the Bluewater Power Group of Companies, headquartered in Sarnia Ontario. A progressive local distribution company, Bluewater Power distributes power to over 35,000 customers in six Sarnia-Lambton communities. Bluewater Power Distribution Corporation is looking to recruit a Distribution Engineer. The position is a permanent full-time position, reporting to the Manager, Design Services. 

Job Duties:

• Engineering design and analytical support for the utility in areas of system planning, system design, system control (P&C), system reliability, investigate and make recommendations on new smart grid technologies, assist with asset management and capital budget planning.
• Experience and knowledge in designing and preparing plans, cost estimates, contracts, and construction packages for various electrical distribution system projects including new installations, rebuilds and upgrades of the distribution system to meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
• Experience in areas of short circuit, protective device coordination, system optimization and reliability.
• Investigating protection and control issues, including hands-on troubleshooting in the field.
• Project management and construction site inspections to ensure work is done in accordance with our Construction Verification Program.
• Assist in maintaining construction standards and specifications for equipment.
• Liaising with consultants, developers, contractors and customers.
• Leveraging GIS, OMS, SCADA, Metering, IT, and System Analysis tools when required to develop Engineering and Operations solutions
• Assist in the development of the tools, programs and processes necessary for improved system planning, analysis, system records, engineering and construction standards and system operation and maintenance. 

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university and P.Eng. designation
• Minimum of three (3) years’ related work experience with utility specific experience an asset
• Advanced knowledge of technical specifications and standards
• Proficient skills with the use of computers and software; in particular with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, high ethical and quality standards.
