SCADA Engineer

 

As an Engineer, you provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System.  The primary role of engineer is to maintain and expand the software and hardware components of the SCADA systems to achieve the high level of operational availability and reliability. 

 

Responsibilities include: building and maintaining the SCADA master computer database, ongoing expansion and maintenance of the various SCADA communication systems including ethernet, radio, and copper line & fibre optic systems.  Duties include working on RTU communication protocols such as DNP 3.0,, ICCP, MOSCAD MDLC, and ABB ADLP180.  Working on regular basis with various stakeholders (AM, IT, Stations, & Distribution Services groups in the planning design, specifying, installation and testing of new or improved SCADA controlled equipment and communication services: project management of upgrades and expansions to master SCADA system.

 

The Engineer develops standards and specifications; participates in short and long range strategic planning; prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs analysis, testing and evaluations; provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices.  The Engineer can be called upon to act as a team or project leader.

REQUIREMENTS

**Denotes a mandatory job requirement

 

  • *Registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario
  • *Minimum  five (5) years relevant experience in SCADA system including design, installation & maintenance of the various software & hardware components: RTU/IED, SONET, RS232, DNP 3.0, LAN/WAN, modems, radio systems, record keeping, research and development and fault finding
  • *University degree in Engineering
  • *Must have a valid Class “G” Drivers License
  • *Experience with various distribution systems commonly used in the City of Toronto, associated with all aspects of capital, maintenance and customer supply projects, up to and including 27.6kV, 13.8kV, 4kV, in underground, overhead, stations, and network environments, is a definite asset
  • ?  Strong Communication Skills: prepares effective reports and presentations (both oral and written); possesses active listening skills; openly contributes ideas
  • ?  Proven skills in effective project management, operations, business process and productivity improvements
  • ?  Proven effective problem-solving and analytical ability, makes sound and timely decisions; able to timely identify key issues and/or complex situations and engage key stakeholders.
