Vice President, Administration & Business Development

 

NORTHERN WATERWORKS (NWI)  

NWI has been providing water and wastewater operations, maintenance and management services and manages 35 municipal water and wastewater subsystems. These systems include over 60 individual facilities that are distributed over a geographical area that is similar in size to that of France and Germany combined. NWI operates, maintains and manages 50% of all municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities west of Thunder Bay to the Manitoba border, and employs over 40 professionals dedicated to setting new industry standards and best practices. 

THE POSITION 

NWI is privately owned by PUC Inc. within the PUC Group of Companies. PUC Inc. is a private corporation and is wholly owned by the Corporation of the City of Sault Ste. Marie. PUC Inc. has two subsidiaries, PUC Distribution and NWI. 

LOCATION

The successful candidate can reside in a central Northern Community such as Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, Red Rock, Thunder Bay, or any of the surrounding areas with the ability to travel regularly. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Administration & Compliance

  • Drive the development and implementation of the long-term strategy for the for following administration functions; Finance & Accounting, Health and Safety, Human Resources, Marketing, Purchasing and Information Technology
  • Monitor and assess capital needs through planning to determine the operational, maintenance and administration budget development
  • Responsible for oversight of all compliance matters including engaging with Provincial Regulatory Agencies and levels of government as required
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the corporate safety program
  • Drive the evaluation and resolution of insurance and legal issues
  • Support the creation and implementation of a cyber security program
  • Present to the Board of Directors as required on the financial health of the organization as well as critical administration activities 

Business Development

  • Lead the pursuit of viable new business venture opportunities for NWI which support the organizations strategic objective of long-term sustainable growth
  • Design and present sound business cases to the Board of Directors which demonstrate the viability of new opportunities
  • Advise on the types of business partnerships to best support long-term relationships and business growth
  • In partnership with the Executive Lead, assist in the negotiations for new venture acquisitions as well as develop agreements with partners and clients as required
  • Develop strategies for successful implementation of new business ventures to ensure that all necessary resources are in place for launch
  • Establish and maintain sound relationships with critical parties involved in venture activities as well as act as a conduit for identifying synergies within the new business relationships 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • University Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ related experience (preferably in a related environment)
  • Strong knowledge of related legislation, codes, standards and practices
  • Experience leading teams and driving organization strategy and results
  • Strong business acumen, financial acumen and relationship management skills
  • Experience managing projects with cross functional teams while utilizing influence and problem-solving skills to remove obstacles
  • Experience preparing strong, clear business cases rooted with sound logic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated and passionate business professional
