Chief Financial Officer & Director, Stakeholder Relations

E.L.K. Energy is a Local Distribution Company serving the communities of Belle River, Comber, Cottam, Essex, Harrow and Kingsville. We currently require a dynamic individual to assume the responsibilities of Chief Financial Officer & Director, Stakeholder Relations. This is a full-time, non-union position.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Corporate Management Team, the Chief Financial Officer & Director, Stakeholder Relations will be a critical member of the Leadership Team that leads the Finance & Regulatory Department.

A summary of the duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Collaborate with the C.E.O. to develop short and long term plans for the Board and advises on the financial implications,
  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, expertise and innovation to Customer Service, Finance and Regulatory Departments,
  • Formulates and recommends accounting, credit and administrative policies,
  • Develops operating & capital budgets and perform regular analysis of same,
  • Responsible to ensure the company is in compliance with all regulatory requirements of external organizations, including the Ontario Energy Board, IESO, ESA, etc.,
  • Directs and actively participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective information and reporting system; including hardware, software and other office equipment,
  • Administers the debt structure of the Board,
  • Attend regular Board of Director meetings and provide Secretarial support to the Board,
  • Responsible for the individual and consolidated financial records in a multi-company setting,
  • Prepares annual financial statements and is responsible for the external audit,
  • Directs the insurance program for the Board,
  • Develop and respond to all stakeholder engagement initiatives to improve and enhance the perceptions and experiences with stakeholders,
  • Develop and manage the company’s brand,
  • Responsible for the company’s website and social media presence,
  • Responsible for personnel matters including human resources and payroll, and
  • Carry out other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree or diploma in business administration, plus a professional accounting designation (e.g. C.A., C.M.A., C.G.A., C.P.A.).
  • Three to five years’ experience in industry since qualifying, unless the applicant has a satisfactory background in public practice.
  • Sound knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and ACCPAC software applications.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, along with strong interpersonal and consultative skills
