POSITION SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning, Analysis, & Reporting the successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Finance department for capital and inventory reporting and reconciliations, regulatory accounting activities, and preparation of monthly financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. 

Responsibilities & Duties: 

  • Assist with budget, forecast, planning, and analysis related activities, including but not limited to: preparation of forecast and budget templates, monthly departmental reports, and analysis of budget to actual variances.
  • Reconcile & analyze capital and Work-In-Progress (WIP) related accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Reconcile & upload closed job data to the Fixed Asset module monthly.
  • Update monthly depreciation in FA module and record adjusting journal entries, as required.
  • Prepare & maintain monthly capital detailed reports at a job level.
  • Provide support to Engineering & Operations teams regarding capital reporting, as required.
  • Calculate and record all asset disposal adjustments, as required.
  • Assist with regulatory related functions, including but not limited to: preparation of month end unbilled calculation, coding and journal entry for IESO invoice, calculating power estimate invoice, calculate true-up for revenue and expense, calculate and post carrying charges on regulatory balances, and preparation of various OEB reporting.
  • Reconcile inventory and transformer accounts and record all related monthly adjustment journal entries.
  • Provide analysis and support for inventory sale transactions.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, or related field from an accredited university or college.
  • Enrollment in the CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants) program considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of Finance/Accounting experience in the electric utility environment or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Understanding of the utility regulatory environment and accounting regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work with and across various business units within the organization
  • Advanced Excel skills are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, respect in the workplace and continued improvement of processes and procedures.
  • Self-starter; highly motivated and able to work independently; asks for help when required.
  • Analytical with excellent reasoning, organizational, & written communication skills.
