Oshawa Power, a subsidiary of Oshawa Power & Utilities Corporation, and affiliate of fiber optic, district energy and renewable generation businesses, is the local hydro-electric distribution company that supplies electricity to more than 58,000 customers in the city of Oshawa. Located just 45 minutes east of Toronto off the shores of Lake Ontario, Oshawa serves as the economic engine for the Durham Region. Oshawa Power maintains 1000 km of overhead and underground distribution lines within a 150 km2 service territory, operated at 44 and 13.8 kV, supplied by 9 distribution and 3 transmission substations. POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, People and Business Services, the successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of communications including digital media, social media, website, (internal) corporate communications, market research, public and media relations, promotions, and brand marketing. Through the delivery of creative and innovative communications solutions, this position plays a critical role in delivering an exceptional customer and stakeholder experience, increasing brand awareness for Oshawa Power’s (entire) group of entities and supporting (internal) organizational culture transformation. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Content development and management of all communications activities (internal communications, website, intranet, social media, digital channels and platforms, etc.)
  • Write for and contribute to various marketing materials, such as presentations, event collateral, and media releases
  • Optimize and tag website content to increase rankings in search engines
  • Monitor web traffic and statistics using Google Analytics and other evaluation tools, reporting results as required
  • Research, make recommendations and implement enhancements to improve website usability and compliance with Accessibility for Ontarians with a Disability Act (AODA).
  • Collaborate with business unit areas to integrate new platforms and service models to ensure seamless access and experience for users
  • Implement and maintain all required communications to support emergency preparedness and business continuity
  • Develop cross-platform, integrated digital communications strategies to increase reach, visibility, interaction and engagement opportunities
  • Produce and edit videos, promotional and educational videos using editing software for distribution on online and social media channels
  • Proactively identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves complex digital communications issues
  • Help support content strategy for leadership messaging across the organization
  • Support corporate events and announcements
  • Provide online and digital communications support during emergency events
  • Work with outside vendors

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism
  • Superior oral and written communications skills
  • Professional attitude with excellent customer service skills
  • Energetic and creative self-starter who is detail-oriented and results-driven
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively within a team environment
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of open source content management systems, including WordPress
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver) considered an asset
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products
  • Understanding of search engine optimization and best practices
  • Knowledge of analytical software and mobile applications
  • Knowledge and application of CAN-SPAM and PIPEDA mandatory legislation
