Financial Analyst

Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. (NPEI) is seeking a qualified individual to join our team working out of our corporate office located in beautiful Niagara Falls in the position of Financial Analyst. Reporting to the Director of Regulatory Affairs, the Financial Analyst is responsible for providing analysis, review and reporting to ensure that accounting and regulatory requirements are accurate and reported in a timely manner. This position is also responsible for monitoring internal compliance in conjunction with applicable regulations.

The main duties and responsibilities for this position include:

  • Responsible for the recording and analysis of regulatory assets, variance accounts, fixed assets, capital contributions and billing entries.
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario Energy Board (OEB) accounting and regulatory guidelines.
  • Analyze Regulatory Variance and Deferral accounts for outstanding balances, billing anomalies, regulatory adjustments and interest calculations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly unbilled revenue accrual, highlighting trends and investigating causes for variances.
  • Prepare monthly and annual general ledger account reconciliation and working papers.
  • Prepare and analyze quarterly and annual regulatory filings.
  • Prepare various exhibits required for the annual Incentive Rate Mechanism and Cost-of-Service rate applications.
  • Oversee the wholesale settlement process in an advisory capacity to the Director of Regulatory Affairs.
  • Prepare and submit Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) settlement forms to settle cost of electricity.

Required Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Requires a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA).
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant, progressive experience.
  • Work experience in an electric utility and knowledge OEB codes and regulations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Energy Board (OEB) code, regulations, procedures, record-keeping and reporting, rate applications and filing requirements.
  • Strong planning, analytical and problem solving skills with a clear focus on the delivery of excellent customer service.
  • Advanced skills in the use of computer programs for spreadsheets (Excel), word processing and presentation applications, as well as financial accounting database, software and query tools.
