GIS TECHNICIAN 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position reports directly to the Manager, Operations Information Systems and is responsible for: 

  • Maintain accurate records for all engineering projects and coordinate timely verification of changes in accordance with the requirements of the ESA and Veridian standard practices.
  • Prepare, and revise as necessary, system drawings for operations and/or analysis purposes, and ensure all copies are kept up to date with changes to existing facilities.
  • Ensure “As built” conditions are reflected on the operating maps, GIS and other records.
  • Liaise with outside agencies regarding administrative and legal records such as easements.
  • Provide ad-hoc GIS analysis or asset data reporting as requested by the manager and/or other operating departments.
  • Support the utility GIS and other related software, participating in software evaluation and implementation.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications and documentation for the progression of the GIS and related systems.
  • Liaise with OIS manager in team environment on areas of policies and processes, and assist with their documentation and refinement. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Certified Engineering Technician in the Province of Ontario, preferably in the Electrical discipline.  Post secondary education specializing in GIS is preferred.
  • Strong Computer literacy with advanced skills in AutoCAD and relevant GIS applications and databases.
  • Basic programming knowledge (VBA, C#,PLSQL) is an asset
  • Working knowledge of databases and SQL is an asset
  • Knowledge of electrical utility basics.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
