Meter Reader

 

Orangeville Hydro Limited is a local distribution company that is responsible for distributing electricity to approximately 13,000 homes and businesses within the Town of Orangeville and the Town of Grand Valley. 

Reporting to the Manager of Customer Service, you will be responsible for accurately reading and recording water meter readings for residential and commercial customers using (handheld) computerized meter reading system in the Town of Orangeville and the Village of Grand Valley and the delivering of collection notices. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurately read and record meter readings for residential and commercial customers using (handheld) computerized meter reading system
  • Report all inactive, defective, and irregular water meters
  • Report meter locations that are hazardous or difficult to read
  • Walk assigned routes reading water meters inside and outside of residential and commercial properties
  • Drive a utility owned vehicle to various locations along the day’s route
  • Hand deliver collection notices to customers’ premises
  • Communicate and interact with customers effectively
  • Do all final readings and check readings
  • Maintain records and key rings for assigned routes
  • Practice good public relations when required to obtain permission from customers and/or landowners for access and/or work on private property
  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints and refer, when necessary, to the appropriate staff
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to change in procedures and workload and able to maintain composure when confronted with stressful situations
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and recognize and report unsafe working conditions
  • Assist line department and other duties as required 

Qualifications

  • Competence in the use of electronic data capture devices
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license in good standing
  • Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather and to walk the designated meter reading routes
  • Clean Criminal Record
