Power System Engineer

 

 

InnPower Corporation is the local distribution company serving approximately 19,000 customers in the Town of Innisfil and south Barrie, located north of Toronto near the shores of Lake Simcoe. 

InnPower currently has a vacancy for a Power System Engineer. Reporting to the Manager, Stations, Planning & Asset Optimization, the successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis, planning, designing, developing, commissioning and maintenance of power system related projects and deliverables. This position is also responsible for system modeling and analysis including but not limited to load flow, fuse coordination and short fault current calculating for system. 

Specific accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform engineering studies and analysis including but not limited to load flow, fault, protection coordination, grounding and generation, to support system and outage planning.
  • Design, review and test all protection, control and operational communication equipment/networks.
  • Design, review and approve Schematic and wiring diagrams according to utility standards, IEEE and CSA for all protection, control and operational communication equipment/networks.
  • Test and maintain all distribution equipment and generate reports accordingly.
  • Prepare, monitor, communicate/coordinate and schedule on a timely basis any recurring equipment maintenance, specific equipment repairs and upgrades.
  • Perform substation inspections and report analysis for substation and lead the preventive maintenance program for all the station’s assets and inline RTU’s.

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 3 years’ related industry experience in protection, control and industrial communications is required
  • Knowledge of substations, transformer stations, electrical protection, computer and network fundamentals is required.
  • A Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, in good standing is required.
  • A valid Ontario Class 'G' Drivers Licence with an excellent driving record is required.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR, WHMIS and Utility Work Protection Code training is considered as an asset.
  • Work effectively with computer software (eg. Microsoft productivity applications) and computer based systems CYME, SEL QuickSet, AcSELerator RTAC, IntelliLink and TapTalk).
  • Work effectively with different test sets such as OMICRON Testrano, Compano and ARCO400. Experience with cable testing Tan delta and PD test will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively with hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, maps, drawings and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public to maintain safe, effective and mutually respectful professional relationships.
