Labourer

Bracebridge Generation Ltd. is looking for an enthusiastic, responsible Labourer to assist in the maintenance and operations of the waterpower facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Assist the Skilled Tradespersons to perform repairs and preventative maintenance or inspections of all Bracebridge Generation equipment, including hydraulic turbines, generators, auxiliary equipment, dams, etc.
  • Operating dam equipment to adjust outflow
  • Assists in ordering parts and materials necessary for repair of equipment
  • Follows all Regulations, company safety policies and standard operating procedures
  • Completes work orders, timesheets, and other reports promptly and accurately
  • Maintain facilities with snow removal, yard maintenance, maintaining a clean and orderly shop
  • Able to work well independently
  • Perform tasks, applying skills of painting, carpentry, welding, plumbing, masonry, lagging & insulating, scaffolding, and general maintenance
  • Maintain and operate machines and shop tools required to carry out work assignments
  • Operate forklifts, mobile and stationary cranes, and trucks
  • Accountable for the health, safety and wellbeing of self and others, in accordance with technical/operating procedures and standards
  • Maintains and reports on generating plants as required
  • Must obtain safety certification including, confined spaces, propane, work protection code, and other courses as deemed required
  • Must be able to work after hours and in adverse weather conditions
  • Proven ability to work effectively and safely in a team setting 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Mechanically/electrically inclined
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about the practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of heavy duty equipment;
  • Must have experience using power tools, hand tools, measuring tools and operating equipment
  • Ability to or willingness to learn to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings and manuals;
  • Problem solving skills essential and strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to maintain co-operative and harmonious relations with employees and supervisors;
  • Must maintain good knowledge of all Standard Operating Procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Labour Standards Act;
  • Must be physically fit, heavy lifting and mobility/flexibility required
  • Must have excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self motivated and able to work unsupervised, as well as in a team setting 

Qualifications, Education, Training & Experience:

  • 3-5+ years experience in an electrical or mechanical workplace
  • Experience in construction, trades and with contractors
  • Computer skills such as Microsoft word, Excel, and other various software.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class G drivers’ license with an excellent driving record
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
