This union position will appeal to a safety-conscious individual with an electrical background, who is able to work steadily and effectively in dynamic situations, including power outages. The successful candidate must have or be willing to work towards the completion of the MEARIE Electrical Operator certification program. As a certified System Control Operator, the position will monitor, control, and direct the operation of the GrandBridge Energy power distribution system. With safety as a top priority, you will work in both normal and emergency conditions on 8.32/4.8kV – 27.6/16kV overhead and underground systems and multiple transformer stations. Additionally, you will prepare and check switching instructions for field crews and issue work permits and other isolations to administer the Utility Work Protection Code; maintain and update key Control Room systems; and participate in distribution system planning. Providing effective and courteous assistance to customers and coworkers, you will also liaise with other controlling authorities (including, neighbouring utilities, Hydro One, and the IESO) to ensure procedural compliance.

Ideally, you’ve completed your Electrical Engineering Technician/Technologist diploma, including courses in electrical theory and distribution system fundamentals, and the MEARIE Journeyperson Electrical Operator Certificate or recognized equivalent. The candidates without the ideal education and training requirements, must be willing to successfully complete the MEARIE Electrical Operator Training 5-year program. Preference will be given to candidates who are near completion, or who have completed the MEARIE Electrical Operator Training. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel), and working knowledge of OMS, AutoCAD, GIS, CIS, and MS Access databases is an asset. The candidate must have strong communication and effective listening skills. Must have a valid Class G driver’s licence. Candidates will be tested as part of the interview process. System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) knowledge where applicable. This position will require the flexibility of working rotating shifts and overtime during emergencies or nights, and weekends to provide the 24/7 coverage.  You must have the ability to work on a rotating 24/7 shift schedule, and to be available for on-call and emergency duties; as well as have the ability to respond and be in the Control Room within required time frames if placed on-call.

The benefits of joining our Control Room include a wage range starting at $56,410, with additional shift premiums, health, dental and pension benefits, planned Overtime, and over 5-year apprenticeship progressions each 6 months, capping at a final rate of over $100,000.
