DIRECTOR OF FINANCE / CONTROLLER

 

Orillia Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) has a challenging and unique opportunity for a dynamic, highly motivated and proactive individual to manage and oversee the broad ranging financial responsibilities of the company. OPGC owns and operates six waterpower generating stations and seven solar generation facilities, with a total generating capacity of 22MW. OPGC employs a talented and dedicated team of 18 staff, with a focus on efficient operation of its generation assets to produce clean, renewable energy. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Finance / Controller has one direct report and will be responsible for the strategic leadership, planning and hands on management of the accounting and finance functions of the company.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide management and the Board of Directors with accurate and timely financial reporting and performance measurement information, including participation and presentations at Board meetings
  • Analyze the company’s financial position including cash management and debt financing 
  • Prepare and issue financial statements and operating reports as required
  • Plan and implement annual external audit, preparation of audited financial statements (under IFRS) and annual tax filings
  • Liaise with external auditors as well as tax authorities and participate in Audit Committee meetings
  • Assess, develop and implement internal financial controls, policies and procedures in accordance with company objectives
  • Review, design and implement financial business processes to ensure efficiency and proper controls
  • Support and oversee staff in ongoing processing of A/R, A/P, payroll and regulatory / tax filings
  • In conjunction with the operations staff, coordinate planning and preparation of annual budget and long-term financial plans
  • Responsible for the development and ongoing evaluation of risk management processes
  • Maintain professional relationship with insurance providers and oversee annual insurance renewal, policy review and claims management processes
  • In conjunction with third party service provider, manage IT and Cyber Security functions.
  • Responsible for the financial component of the Enterprise Resource Planning system (Microsoft Dynamics / Great Plains)
  • Build and maintain professional relationship with financial institution and provide covenant and other reporting as required
  • Support the company with financial analysis and modelling related to business expansion opportunities
  • Assist with other projects and perform other duties as required 

Education, Experience and Required Skills

  • University Degree in Business or related field
  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA)
  • 10+ years of relevant financial management experience, including exposure to IFRS
  • Well-developed skills with Microsoft Office applications, with advanced Excel knowledge and abilities
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics – Great Plains is an asset
  • Experience overseeing information technology functions and cyber security risk management
  • Experience developing and presenting materials to senior management and Board level
  • Strategic, proactive, organized and priority/results focused
  • Analytical and logical thinker
  • Solution oriented, conceptual and innovative
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Focused on excellence – with an emphasis on quality, continuous improvement, learning and safety
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key contacts; including: bankers, auditors, lawyers, suppliers, etc.
