POWERLINE MAINTAINER/Op’s Technician

PERMANENT FULL TIME

 

Centre Wellington Hydro is a progressive small electric distribution utility servicing the Village of Elora and Town of Fergus, within the Township of Centre Wellington, and is inviting applications for an experienced and competent team player with exceptional mechanical aptitude for the unique position of Powerline Maintainer with Technician duties.   

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful incumbent will be part of a PLM team responsible for the operation, maintenance, and construction of overhead and underground electricity distribution systems. In addition, the role will be responsible for Technician duties relating to GIS, metering, and design layout of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities, and electrical service connections for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.  The Powerline Maintainer/Op’s Technician will be a part of the team supporting CWH’s ongoing commitment to customer and operational excellence.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Powerline Maintainer Duties:

  • Proven ability to work effectively, efficiently, and safely within a team while providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to physically perform essential duties of the position including regular on-call duties and response to emergency work outside of regular business hours, and in all weather conditions
  • High level of competence in completing written utility required documentation and reports, i.e. 22/04 certificates, tailboards, switching orders, on a daily basis
  • Perform line clearing activities utilizing chainsaws, woodchipper and pole saws 

Op’s Technician Duties:

  • Regular maintenance and monitoring of GIS (ESRI) operating system
  • Plan and layout electrical service connections for residential, commercial, and industrial customers
  • Prepare sketches, drawings, diagrams, schematics, and instructions to facilitate the design and construction of overhead and underground distribution systems in accordance with USF design standards and CWH policies
  • Metering activities including new installations, maintenance and meter inventory 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Completion of Electrical Technician or Technologist Program with diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Preference given to Journey Powerline Maintainers, registered apprentices or Technicians with Utility experience and a desire to become a PLM
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Windows environment and associated software applications, CAD, GIS, SCADA
  • Familiar operating knowledge of GIS Systems (ESRI)
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Class DZ driver’s license and maintenance of a clean driver’s abstract
  • Good interpersonal skills with team members, especially with customers
  • Must be able to respond to the Utility’s normal service territory within twenty-five minutes
