Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst

 

Reporting to the Manager Geomatics, the successful applicant will be responsible for the development, collection, and analysis of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data to fully optimize and enhance the productivity and efficiency of systems and processes. This includes compiling data from various sources, converting the collected data using automated processes into appropriate format(s) and merging data sets. The GIS Analyst will work with end-users from various departments to successfully create maps and mobile tools used in the maintenance and management of our data. They will generate reports that provide insights and KPI’s into the health of our system. The successful incumbent will also be responsible for enhancing data and providing spatial analytics to support the organization and meet with stakeholders to determine deliverables, problem solve and research solutions to accurately add and update data. 

Other responsibilities include performing quality control on geodatabases and maintaining the integrity of datasets and data models by making needed corrections using editing procedures or through the development of models and/or scripts. The incumbent must have strong communication and leadership skills with experience leading teams and projects to oversee and provide technical guidance, training documentation and other training for staff on the use of GIS applications. This includes informing staff about new developments in software and newly refined processes that can allow for streamlined workflows. They will also demonstrate work procedures and operating standards. 

The successful applicant must have the following skills and competencies:

  • University Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Science or Engineering with minimum 3 years of comparable experience; or college diploma and 5 years of comparable experience.
  • Additional GIS courses/certificates considered an asset.
  • More than 3 years of similar or related experience.
  • Proficient with ESRI software including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online, as well as Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, including AutoCAD Map3D.
  • Familiarity with ArcFM and Geocortex is an asset.
  • Strong ability to develop models using ModelBuilder and create scripts (Python, FME, etc).
  • Practical experience with data structuring, geodatabase administration and map development.
  • Knowledgeable with systems such as SAP, CIS, and SCADA.
  • Experience developing and supporting mobile applications including Collector, Field Maps, Survey 123 etc.
  • Ability to use GIS capabilities to extract data and provide summary reports to management level within the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge on executing SQL queries within tables and feature classes.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in group settings.

Salary Range for Qualified Candidates: $84,321 - $93,690
