Project Engineer

GrandBridge Energy is looking for a Project Engineer to join the Distribution System Operations team at our Brantford office. This position is primarily responsible for distribution system planning and automation, asset management, capital planning, project management and contract administration.

Duties include: 

Power System Planning and Engineering:

  • Conduct reliability analysis, load flow studies, and provide recommendations for long term sustainability and reliability of GrandBridge Energy distribution system.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering reports on the conduct of the studies, the study results with the appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Assist in developing the distribution system investment plans/programs to provide capacity reinforcement, reliability improvement, and plans for asset refurbishment.
  • Assist with IESO Regional Planning by preparing load growth forecasts for GrandBridge Energy.

Technical Leadership and Support:

  • Become the technical lead and provide guidance, knowledge and support for SCADA improvements, emerging DER technologies, protection and control, transformer stations maintenance and distribution design.
  • Support Grid Modernization by conducting gap assessments, technology evaluation, technical analysis, developing specification & requirements, and advanced technology implementations.
  • Solve challenging problems pertaining to grid modernization plans, specification definition, or project/program implementations.

Asset Management and Operations:

  • Review and combine legacy asset management programs, plans and processes to align with the corporate business objectives, GBE’s asset management goals, ISO 55000 standard and the applicable regulations.
  • Maintain the asset management programs, including budgets, schedules, performance targets, to ensure optimal mitigation of risk while maximizing the performance of the distribution system and delivering value to our customers and shareholders.
  • Ensure that asset inspection schedules including the maintenance and replacement of equipment are being carried out in accordance with the GBE’s asset management goals and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with preparing annual Distribution System Operations budgets by developing forecasting models, cost-benefit analysis, and budget versus actual budget reporting.

Project Management and Procurement:

  • Coordinate with internal resources and vendors for the flawless execution of projects while ensuring that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Assist with procurement and contract documentation for services related to the distribution system planning, asset inspection, SCADA and distribution system automation improvements, and SMART grid technology innovation.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

We are looking for an individual with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent program with ideally 2-5 years of utility experience. Individuals who are eligible to obtain their Professional Engineer Licence (P.Eng.) within 24 - 48 months of employment are preferred. Project Management certification or a PMP designation, is considered an asset. Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and project management skills are required to find success in this role. This position requires knowledge of the following applications and engineering tools: Synergi Electric, DESS, Survalent ADMS, SEL and GE Relay Programs, AutoCAD, MS Suite Applications and Database Applications (i.e., SQL, Oracle, MS Access). A valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license is also required.
