Line Supervisor

 

 

E.L.K. Energy Inc. is a Local Distribution Company serving the communities of Belle River, Comber, Cottam, Essex, Harrow and Kingsville. We are currently accepting applications for the position of Line Supervisor. 

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering & Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the daily activities of the operations staff, including planning, scheduling and work completion in compliance with H&S policies, procedures and standards.

The regular hours of work are 40 hours per week, 7:30am-4:00 pm (during Daylight Savings Time, 7:00am-3:30pm), with a 30-minute lunch.  The successful applicant will also be expected to be periodically on-call and available to assist and direct after-hours emergencies as required.  This is a salaried position and includes compensation and benefits in accordance with the Company’s non-union benefit program.

Main Responsibilities

  • Schedule and plan work, assign sub-foreman, assemble crews and equipment and complete approved jobs in an efficient, safe and effective manner;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable corporate and industry safety policies, procedures (including job planning and tailboards) and standards. Assist with department-related personnel and H&S investigations;
  • Ensure that all staff are properly trained and if required, recommend additional training.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to the Operations department on a daily basis, including conducting performance reviews, providing feedback, assistance with labour relations issues, approving leave requests and administration of discipline (if required);
  • Participate in the interview process for lines apprentices, journeymen and sub-foremen. Monitor training and progress of apprentices, including guidance and implementation of corrective measures as required;
  • Develop and execute plans for all functions and projects in the department. Provide input into the annual budget process;
  • Work closely with the Engineering department in reviewing and approving technical requirements and construction details of proposed work; provide technical assistance/advice and recommendations as required;
  • Provide insight and guidance to senior management on H&S and operational matters. Provide board reports and presentations on Operations and H&S matters;
  • Coordinate emergency repair and power restoration in accordance with corporate policies/procedures and plans. Review and approve technical requirements and construction details of proposed work; provide technical assistance/advice and recommendations as required; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidates will possess the following minimum attributes, skills and qualifications:

  • Education: Powerline Technician Certification of Qualification in Ontario and a Grade 12 Graduation Diploma.  A college diploma in a related subject matter is a definite asset;
  • Experience: 10 years of experience as a certified Lineman with demonstrated successful leadership experience (e.g. as a sub-foreman or in a supervisory role) for at least 5 years.  Prior utility experience is a definite asset;
  • Knowledge: Must possess a sound understanding of electrical principles and the operation of the electrical distribution system.  Must have thorough knowledge of procedures and equipment needed to complete jobs in a safe and reliable manner, including applicable OH&S, MOL, MOE, ESA, OEB, EUSA rules & regulations.  Must have familiarity with scheduling, budgeting and financial reporting, including cost monitoring and containment tools and techniques;
  • Skills: Must have excellent people skills, including the ability to mentor staff and effectively communicate technical information.  Must have an ability to manage disparate opinions and discern when best to seek out consensus or impose decisions.  Must have an appreciation of the need to balance corporate priorities and goals, health and safety concerns, and employee morale and feedback on an ongoing basis; and,
  • Other: Must possess a valid DZ Ontario Driver’s Licence and an acceptable Driver’s Abstract
